Feng Shui Lanterns That Take Your Wishes to the Sky for 2010

Although Sky Lanterns are now hip and trendy, they’ve actually been around for thousands of years in Asia.  Called “Khoom Fay” or “Khom Fai” they are lit for celebrations such as the Pingshi Lantern Festival in Taiwan; the Loy Kratong Festival for lovers in Thailand; and the Yipeng Full Moon Buddhist Festival.

 

These lanterns are decorated with colorful pictures, the names of their owners, and wishes such as “the higher the lamp flies, the higher your business will soar”.  Visually, they are extraordinarily magical and there is a deep wonder and awe as you release your fire-lit lantern into the night sky!

 

Among the many things you can light one for are: ridding yourself of troubles and worries; conveying your wish to the Heavens; offering peace; receiving good luck; receiving wisdom; honoring ancestral spirits; making offerings to monks, nuns and temples to receive enlightenment; and celebrating birthdays, weddings or other special holidays.

 

As you can see, lighting a sky lantern can be a very powerful physical manifestation of your New Years wish or prayer.

 

10,000 Blessings Feng Shui sells sky lanterns made from non-flammable bio-degradable rice paper and have a specially designed wick for burning. After its release, it will fly for about 12 minutes and lift up over a mile in the air.  Once the self-extinguishing wick burns out, it just floats gracefully back down to earth.

How to Use a Feng Shui Wishing Jewel for Your 2010 Goals

 

"May I be the wishing jewel, the vase of plenty,
A word of power and the supreme healing;
May I be the tree of miracles."
(Shantideva) 

 

In Buddhism, there is a mudra (hand position) where the two hands are held in front of the chest at heart level with the palms cupping a wish-fulfilling jewel between them.  This jewel symbolizes Chenrezig (or Kuan Yin’s) infinite loving kindness towards the suffering of all beings.

 

In Feng Shui, wish-granting gems are used to activate a strong flow of sheng chi (positive energy) to help actualize and manifest all of your heart’s altruistic wishes.

 

There is an extraordinary ancient ritual that can be done over time to really power-house your jewel that I teach my clients and students. Otherwise, you can also simply display the gem in a place your eyes will fall on it often such as next to your bed, on your desk or in your living room.  See and feel yourself as if your wish has already come true. 

 

Remember to back up your visual cure with action in the mundane world—for example, if you’re praying for good health, take the actions necessary to support your vital chi or if you have a big financial goal next year, take actions to increase your streams of revenue!  The jewel works as a symbol energetic connection to the invisible aspects of Feng Shui as you continue to take action in the visible world.

 

Some other things to consider:

 

·     Choose a beautiful and sparkling gemstone, crystal or glass jewel.

·     Keep it dust-free and deep clean it once a month by soaking it overnight in salt water and rinse under strong cold water in the morning.

·     Activate by shining light on it (electric, sunlight or candle-light).

·     Use the colors of the Bagua (Feng Shui energy map) to activate your wish.  You could use a clear diamond for any wish; red for fame and promotion wishes; blue for career opportunities or deepening your spirituality wishes; pink for romantic love wish; gold for health, money or helpful people wishes; and green for family or health wishes.

·     You can also add your gem to other symbols or pictures creating a tableaux of wishes.  For example, in the Fame and Recognition area of my office desk, I have a red wishing jewel next to my business cards along with a red lantern, photo of me and my teacher (Grandmaster Lin Yun) and a red Kuan Yin.  I also have a big gold one in my Wealth Bowl that sits in the Fortunate Blessings and Prosperity area of my desk.  You can see photos of these at my blog at www.10KBlessingsFengShui.typepad.com

Burning Feng Shui Red Envelopes

 

Here's a photo from my Red Envelope Burning Ritual on the evening before the Lantern Festival.  It's a miracle they burned as it was an extraordinarily "Wind and Water" kind of day with huge waves and wind and pouring rain--let's just say that we were the only ones on the beach!

All of the Red Envelopes I received in the Year of the Rat from consultations, blessing ceremonies, apprentices, students and well-wishers were burned in a respectful and joyful way with mantras and prayers for their Happiness, Health and Prosperity.   The money comes out of the envelopes (and is used to buy altar offerings for my client shrine, temples and good deeds all around).  It's very moving to me to watch the handfuls of envelopes burn, remembering clients' intentions.  The images of Fooks and Wealth Gods and Gold Ingots become burnt offerings for the Heaven Realm and the 10,000 Buddhas.

Afterwards, I must say, I felt incredibly awake and vibrant and full of chi--wow!  I just love this ritual...

Feng Shui Wish-Making Balloons

 

On September 2nd, the day I turn 45, I'll be doing this most-wonderful Feng Shui ritual to celebrate my birthday but it can be done for any special occasion or rite of passage.

Take 1 red or red plus gold helium balloons in multiples of threes with red ribbon tails of 9" increments.  With a red or black marker, write one wish of your deepest heart's desire on each balloon.  Release them one at a time and watch your prayer reach into the Heaven Realm.  If you knwow the Feng Shui BTB school "Three Secret Reinforcements" that would be a lovely extra touch!
