Scent is one of the classic Feng Shui adjustments and, I believe, a highly under-used one. Beautiful scents can not only uplift your energy and dispel negative and stagnant chi, but also attract Helpful People and Benefactors to your business. Scent can also be used to heighten your spiritual awareness. If your home or business has bad odors, you don’t have good Feng Shui. Please immediately address any foul odors coming from unkempt water in fountains or aquariums, pet urine, moldy or stale filters or ducts, water leaks and so on. Don’t just cover up the bad scent, take care of that energy drain! I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to open up your windows and doors and let fresh air in every single day—it’s the most refreshing feeling! There are many ways to use fragrance to change the chi of you or your environment: burning sandalwood incense or chen pi (a dried mandarin orange peel); having vases of fresh flowers; using essential oils (in sprays, candles, household cleaners, etc.) and fresh orange peels. In BTB Feng Shui we have some gorgeous cures such as “The Fragrant Flower Cure” and “Cure by Sense of Smell” to carry away inauspicious chi during blessing ceremonies, hospital visits or funerals. You can easily refresh yourself by carrying nine pieces of round orange peels close to your body.
