Here's a photo from my Red Envelope Burning Ritual on the evening before the Lantern Festival. It's a miracle they burned as it was an extraordinarily "Wind and Water" kind of day with huge waves and wind and pouring rain--let's just say that we were the only ones on the beach!
All of the Red Envelopes I received in the Year of the Rat from consultations, blessing ceremonies, apprentices, students and well-wishers were burned in a respectful and joyful way with mantras and prayers for their Happiness, Health and Prosperity. The money comes out of the envelopes (and is used to buy altar offerings for my client shrine, temples and good deeds all around). It's very moving to me to watch the handfuls of envelopes burn, remembering clients' intentions. The images of Fooks and Wealth Gods and Gold Ingots become burnt offerings for the Heaven Realm and the 10,000 Buddhas.
Afterwards, I must say, I felt incredibly awake and vibrant and full of chi--wow! I just love this ritual...
